If I had to pick five Christmas themed novels to give to my friends this year I have to tell you that One Wish in Manhattan would be in that bundle. What an amazing, Christmas magical story this is. Every city and small town is beautiful at Christmas-time. It’s the joy of the season that brings that special glow to anywhere. But to experience Christmas in New York City has a unique magic all its own.
The story description really tells you all the basics you need to decide to pick up this particular gem, so I’m not going to rehash that part. Let’s talk about the characters. Hayley begins the story as somewhat downtrodden from life and her job. She really comes alive in New York City. It’s as though she has shed every care and is ready to embrace whatever life has to offer her. And her joy in her daughter, Angel, is beautifully obvious. She’s not looking for romance, but when Oliver seems to keep showing up the spark is there for them both. So why not take a chance?
Angel is such a wise, sweet child. I’ve known a few children like Angel. Wise beyond their years while still retaining that childhood wonder. She just wants to know her dad. It is her heart’s desire and she sees no reason why that wish cannot come true – but she’s hedging her chances by asking every special person she can think of for help.
Oliver is not at all what he seems on the surface. It was fun to discover who he truly is as layer after layer is peeled away. His attraction to Hayley and his enjoyment of Angel mark him as a very special man indeed. He has his own issues, but these two lovely ladies will help him overcome them.
I simply adored One Wish in Manhattan. I found it charming, realistic in many ways, well thought out and written and overall a joy to fall into this particular Christmas world. Even though I received an advance copy for review through NetGalley, I will definitely be purchasing a copy for my Christmas re-read shelf. Because this one will become a Christmas classic to be enjoyed again and again. If you need to be selective in how you spend your Christmas cash this year, I would definitely recommend One Wish in Manhattan. It is well worth it.
